May has been designated as “Asthma Awareness Month” and May 3rd is "World Asthma Day." Asthma is a serious chronic disease of the lungs that causes swelling (inflammation) in the airways. It is estimated that asthma affects approximately 735,000 New Jersey residents a year. During the month of May, the focus will be on increasing the public’s understanding of asthma, environmental asthma triggers, and asthma management.
