The application for stimulus money through Communities Putting Prevention to Work was submitted to the CDC on November 20. The ONF proposed three initiatives: the first two focused on early intervention to prevent obesity while the third focuses on media messaging.
1) ONF will work with WIC Services to implement a "Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative" to promote initiation, exclusivity and duration of breastfeeding in NJ maternity hospitals.
2) Together with the NJ Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies and other major child care providers across the state, ONF will develop recommendations to update the state requirements for child care center licensing to require the following: healthy food and beverages, adequate opportunities for active, outdoor play and limitations on screen time for children.
3) The final component will build on a communications campaign, The Nutrition and Fitness Challenge, that Governor Corzine recently launched for youth K-12 to encourage healthy behaviors.
