Tobacco Free for Healthy New Jersey

A statewide, comprehensive tobacco control resource directory that promotes tobacco free living outdoors, at work and at home.


The New Jersey Department of Health takes the following measures to encourage our communities to prevent the use of tobacco products and their harmful effects.

Point of Sale:

Mobilize the communities to adopt the implementation Point-of- Sale strategies. Through the performance of store audits, these interventions aim to prescribe stronger local laws directed at retailers in order to restrict minors’ access to tobacco products.

In support of this effort, the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) operates the Tobacco Compliance Check Inspection Program.  This program is described further here.

Outdoor Smoke Free Ordinance:

Develop community coalitions or facilitate existing coalitions to promote the adoption of Outdoor Smoke-Free Recreational Ordinances.

Smoke Free Housing

Promote the implementation of smoke-free policies in public multi-unit housing (as well as multi-unit housing in low income communities) with the use of the developed toolkit.  To learn more and to get a copy of the toolkit, you can visit our grantee's website
