The New Jersey Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a food and nutrition education program.
New Jersey WIC serves New Jersey’s youngest residents and their families at risk for poor nutrition and medically related health problems.
New Jersey WIC Services are available to low and no income families as well as families experiencing unemployment, military deployment and other interim family financial hardships.
How To Apply And Receive WIC Benefits And Services
| If you are: |
Pregnant (up to six weeks after delivery)
Postpartum (up to six months after delivery)
Breastfeeding (up to one year if you continue breastfeeding)
An infant
A child under five years old |
| And: |
Have a nutrition or medically related health risk, |
| And: |
Live in New Jersey (proof of residency required)
Meet income guidelines (proof of income required) |
| You may apply for WIC by contacting your local WIC agency / community WIC clinic sites and scheduling an appointment. |
As long as you or your children are eligible to apply for WIC benefits
you will be eligible to continue to receive WIC benefits. |

- WIC checks for nutritious foods (cashed at grocery stores)
- Nutrition education and counseling
- Breastfeeding education and support
- Immunization screening and referrals
- Referrals for free or reduced cost health care
- Referrals to health or social services
- Medicaid
- Food stamps/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNEP)
- Family care (health care)
- TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)

The following WIC food categories are authorized:
- Milk
- 100% Juice
- Eggs
- Whole Grain Cereal
- Cheese
- Peanut Butter
- Dried or Canned Beans, Peas or Lentils
- Whole Grain Bread, Brown Rice or Whole Wheat Tortillas
- Fruits and Vegetables
- Canned Fish*
- Tofu**
- Soy Beverage**
- Infant Cereal
- Baby Food Fruits and Vegetables and Baby Food Meats***
- Infant Formula
* For Fully Breastfeeding Women, Women Pregnant with multiples and Women partially breastfeeding multiples.
** Medical documentation required to issue Soy beverage to children.
*** Baby food meats provided to fully breastfed babies at six months of age.

WIC foods provide
protein for growth,
iron for healthy blood,
calcium for strong teeth and bones,
vitamin A for healthy skin, hair and vision,
vitamin C for wound healing, fighting

What To Bring To Your Wic Appointment
Please bring the following to your WIC appointment:
- Proof of identity
- Proof of pregnancy
- Proof of income
- Proof of residency
- Your Healthcare Referral Form (if completed by your health care provider)
- Your child's Universal Child Health Record (if completed by your health care provider)
- Your child's vaccination record
Please remember that the adult and all child applicants must be present at the appointment.
