Project Description
Since 1997, the Department of Health has been collecting patient-level Open Heart Surgery data from New Jersey's cardiac surgery centers. Currently, there are 18 hospitals licensed for cardiac surgery and reporting data quarterly.
The data includes patient-level clinical information known to be potential indicators of mortality and complications, patient demographic data, insurance payor, and hospital and surgeon identifiers. The information in the database is used to evaluate hospital and surgeon performance, through generation of risk-adjusted patient mortality rates.
Cardiac Surgery Reports containing these hospital and surgeon-specific risk-adjusted mortality rates are published annually by the department
- Annual Number of Surgeries by Hospital
- Reporting Forms and Instructions for Hospitals
