Certification of Nurse Aides in Long-term Care Facilities and Personal Care Assistants in Assisted Living Facilities

Introduction

The nurse aide and personal care assistant training and competency evaluation programs are designed to ensure that individuals who provide personal care services to residents in Long Term Care Facilities (LTCFs), or nursing homes, and in Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs), have the basic knowledge and skills needed to perform their duties. The certification of a nurse aide in LTCFs and personal care assistant in ALFs require that the candidate successfully complete a New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS) approved training program and successfully complete a competency evaluation consisting of Skills and Written/Oral examination.
