On Thursday, October 8, Health and Senior Services Commissioner Heather Howard will announce a new, healthier food package for low-income women and children in Supplemental Food Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC).  This is the first major revision to WIC in nearly 30 years.

          Commissioner Howard will make the announcement at an event at the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey in New Brunswick, where she will meet with WIC participants and join in an information fair that will include interactive games for children, posters and displays on the new food package, and people dressed as fruits and vegetables.

          The Commissioner will be joined by Roberta Hodsdon, assistant regional director, Mid-Atlantic Regional Office, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the WIC program; Theresa Beck, vice president of the VNA of Central Jersey; and Robin McRoberts, local WIC coordinator.

The event will begin at 1 p.m. at the VNA of Central Jersey WIC Program Administrative site, How Lane Health Center, 123 How Lane, New Brunswick.
