On Friday, January 15, Department of Health and Senior Services Deputy Commissioner Dr. Susan Walsh will join East Orange General Hospital and Essex Valley Visiting Nurse Association at a H1N1 influenza vaccination clinic to vaccinate seniors and to highlight National Influenza Vaccination Week.

This event will be held at 1pm at East Orange General Hospital’s Lecture Room, 80 S. Munn Avenue, East Orange.

Dr. Walsh and other public health experts will discuss the importance of vaccination among the senior population. People 65 years and older are now encouraged to seek vaccination against H1N1. This vaccine is the best way to protect against the H1N1 virus. People 65 and older, if infected with H1N1 flu, are at greater risk of having serious complications from their illness and there have been severe infections and deaths in every age group, including older people.

National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW), January 10-16, is a national observance that was established to highlight the importance of continuing influenza vaccination, as well as fostering greater use of flu vaccine after the holiday season into January and beyond.

From the North: Take the Garden State Parkway south to Exit 145. From the South: Take the Garden State Parkway north to Exit 145. Bear right through toll to traffic light (Grove St). Turn right. Continue to Central Ave (next light), turn right. Go four traffic lights to the corner of Central Ave and South Munn Ave. The event is being held at 80 South Munn Avenue

From the East: Take Route 280 West. Get off at the Garden State Parkway/ Oraton Parkway exit. Bear to the right. Follow the signs to Oraton Parkway. At the traffic light, turn left. Go two lights, make a left turn onto South Munn Ave. Go to the first light, at the intersection of Central Ave and South Munn Ave. Turn right onto Central Ave. The event is being held at 80 South Munn Avenue. 

From the West: Take Route 280 East. Get off at the Harrison Street exit. Merge onto Freeway Drive East. Continue eight traffic lights and turn right onto South Munn Ave. Go to first light (which is the intersection of Central Ave and South Munn Ave). Turn right onto Central Ave. The event is being held at 80 South Munn Avenue.
