(Newark) Friday, December 2, New Jersey Department Health and Senior Services Commissioner Mary E. O’Dowd will join the New Jersey Health Officers Association to celebrate their 100^th anniversary at the Newark Museum.  Commissioner O’Dowd will speak about public health achievements in the last 100 years. 

The formal speaking program will began at 7 pm, at the Newark Museum, 49 Washington Street, Newark.

The Commissioner will tour the Generation Fit: Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle educational exhibit on childhood obesity featured at the museum. The exhibit is an “interactive family experience,” this exhibit focuses on the issue of childhood obesity and shows how small changes in nutrition and activity can lead to a healthier lifestyle.

The New Jersey Health Officers Association was founded on April 17, 1911 to advance knowledge relating to public health and sanitation, and to encourage social discourse among health board officials. The mission of the New Jersey Health Officers Association is to prevent infectious and chronic diseases, promote healthy lifestyle choices and protect the health of New Jersey’s residents and the environment through leadership and commitment to the principles of public health practice.
