In recognition of National Influenza Week, Dec. 4-11, Dr. Arturo Brito, Deputy Commissioner of Public Health, will attend a flu clinic taking place at the Eric B. Chandler Health Center in New Brunswick to encourage children and their parents to get flu shots. Dr. Brito will also address the important role that flu shots play in protecting public health. Dr. Brito will attend the clinic at 4:30 pm. on Thursday, December 8. The 732-235-6700 The CDC estimates between five and 20% of individuals get the flu each year. In Nationally, more than 200,000 people are hospitalized and 36,000 people die due to flu complications each year. The symptoms of flu include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches and fatigue. Most people recover from the flu within two weeks, but some people may develop serious complications such as pneumonia, which can be life-threatening. Individuals with concerns about their symptoms should consult their health care provider.
