Health Commissioner O’Dowd to Visit Keansburg Health Center as Part of National Health Center Week

On Thursday, August 15, New Jersey Health Commissioner Mary E. O'Dowd will tour the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey's Keansburg Health Center in celebration of National Health Center Week, August 11-17. The tour will begin at 10:30 am at 100 Main Street, Keansburg.

Commissioner O'Dowd's visit is part as a health fair the center is holding to celebrate National Health Center Week, which will feature hypertension screenings and stress reduction methods for hurricane season.  During her visit, she will also speak to residents affected by Superstorm Sandy.  The Keansburg Health Center lost power for several days due to the storm and its air conditioning system was damaged.

After more than 50 years of providing maternal and child health services for Monmouth County residents, the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, Inc. (VNACJ) launched primary care services in Asbury Park in 1994.  A family nurse practitioner, located in a church basement, was able to examine, treat and refer residents in need of primary care.  Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey now has four sites to serve Monmouth County residents.

National Health Center Week is held each year to showcase the comprehensive and patient-centered care provided by New Jersey's 20 community health centers and their 101 licensed satellite facilities. The theme for National Health Center Week 2013 is Celebrating America's Health Centers: Transforming Health Care in Our Local Communities, highlighting the ways health centers are improving the health of their communities.
