Trenton -- The Department of Health and Senior Services will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, January 26, 2000, on its proposed expenditures for HIV medical and support services funded through the federal Ryan White Title II program. The annual hearings are held to provide a forum for public comment on the Department's intended use of the federal funds.
The funds are administered through the Division of AIDS Prevention and Control, which uses the monies to provide vital services for persons infected with HIV. The funding is used to support New Jersey's HIV Care Consortia, which is a network designed to improve access, quality and organization of HIV related services throughout the State. Additionally, the funding helps to pay for prescriptions, health insurance, home health care and direct service programs for persons with HIV.
The proposed expenditures are to provide services from April, 2000, through March 31, 2001. New Jersey's allocation of the funding is based on a formula developed by the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration. This year, the Department of Health and Senior Services received approximately $40 million from the Title II funds.
The Ryan White CARE Act of 1996 requires annual public hearings on the proposed use of the Title II funds.
