In 2002, the 1st statewide survey of nutrition and physical activity programs was conducted. The outcome of the initial survey was the creation of the New Jersey Nutrition and Physical Activity Programs Resource Guide. A follow-up survey is now being conducted to update and expand this guide. The first guide was distributed to 500 organizations and posted on the New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research’s website.
This survey is being conducted by the NJDHSS, Nutrition and Physical Activity Workgroup of the Governor’s Task Force on Cancer Prevention, Early Detection and Treatment in New Jersey. The purpose of the survey is to learn about programs promoting physical activity and healthy dietary habits in New Jersey. We are contacting you to learn about such programs in your community. This effort will result in an updated guide detailing the nutrition and physical activity resources available to New Jersey residents. This resource guide will be posted on the NJDHSS’ website, www.NJcancer.gov and disseminated to local hospitals, libraries, local health departments, and healthcare professionals. If you would like to see the first version of the guide, refer to www.nj.gov/health/ccr/nutritionprograms/.
In order to be eligible for inclusion in the resource guide, programs must be non-profit or free of charge, community-based, open to all residents, and promote healthy eating and/or physical activity on an ongoing basis.
The NJDHSS, Office of Cancer Control and Prevention has funded this endeavor.
