If your answer is, “Yes!” The NJ GEAR UP and College Bound Alumni Network is here as a means to help you give back and get involved. As never before, we are living in a time when there is a clarion call for everyone to come together and make a commitment to serve—Somewhere…Somehow…In some way.
If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of others, there are several ways that you can get active today:
Help in your local GEAR UP school
- Contact the NJ GEAR UP or College Bound program from which you graduated or that is nearest to your local community.
- Become a GEAR UP mentor or tutor, so you can make a direct impact in the lives of students who are where you have been.
Help in your local community
- Become part of an entire network of NJ GEAR UP and College Bound alumni by joining the New Jersey GEAR UP and College Bound Alumni Network Facebook group. Together all of you can brainstorm ways to give back, such as: Spearheading community service events…Hosting alumni fundraisers to benefit NJ GEAR UP/College Bound programs…Creating an alumni newsletter to raise awareness about the programs.
Help on a statewide level
- Contact us to become an advocate for the NJ GEAR UP State Project by touting the success of the program and how it has benefited you before key stakeholders such as the governor’s office, local lawmakers and school board officials.
- Tell us your NJ GEAR UP/College Bound success story. Your story could be selected to be featured on this web page or in our annual GEAR UP newsletter as a testimony to the difference NJ GEAR UP and College Bound makes in the lives of students.
In addition to the above, there are a number of other ways that your voice can be heard and your service can inspire. Together, you and other NJ GEAR UP and College Bound alumni can do great things to motivate all the students who are following in your footsteps. Even if you are not yet quite sure how you would like to help, you can connect today with fellow alumni via the NJ GEAR UP and College Bound Alumni Network Facebook group…There you will be able to find motivation or get advice to point you in the right direction.
