About NJMCN

NJ GEAR UP, in collaboration with The NJ Math Curriculum Network, is offering continuous professional development that supports effective teaching and learning of mathematics.

Training objectives include:

• A focus on Big Ideas to strengthen student understanding
• Demonstrate and discuss how graphing calculator technology supports the mathematics curriculum
• A focus on three curriculum themes: rational numbers, data analysis, and algebraic thinking
• Model and develop instructional strategies that support inquiry learning

This will be accomplished through:

• Intensive coaching during in-service meetings where teachers will have the opportunity to explore a small set of exercises implemented on the graphing calculator

• Observation classrooms that allow teachers to watch students during lessons that utilize both the organization of the curriculum around big ideas and specific instructional strategies (ongoing support will be available for teachers who host an observation classroom)

• Demonstration Classrooms (for teachers that already hosted an observation classroom) that allow teachers to lead lessons that utilize both the organization of the curriculum around big ideas and specific instructional strategies (ongoing support will be available for teachers who host a demonstration classroom)
