One-Minute Summary
July 19, 2007 Commission Meeting

The New Jersey Commission on Higher Education convened at the Mary G. Roebling Building in Trenton on July 19, 2007. Vice Chairman Edward Graham presided.

Highlights from the meeting include:

  • Executive Director’s Report: Ms. Oates commented on the Campus Security Task Force meeting, Higher Education Data Advisory Group (HEDAG) training, and described the work of the Commission’s summer interns, introduced them, and thanked them for their contributions to the work of the Commission.

  • Presidents’ Council Report: Dr. Yaw commented on the Campus Security Task Force, transfer agreement progress, and the NJ Transfer budget.

  • Guest Speaker: Ms. Rowena Madden, Executive Director, NJ Commission on National and Community Service, discussed the Summer of Service pilot and CollegeServe New Jersey.

  • Special Evaluation Study Grant from the NJ Department of State: The Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution accepting a grant of up to $15,000 from the New Jersey Department of State to utilize the Commission’s research capacity in the development of a process study of the 2007 pilot program for Neighborhood Youth Service Clubs as part of the Summer of Service program.

  • 2008 Supplemental College Bound Funding: The Commissioners adopted a resolution approving the distribution of the one-time supplemental funding to The College of New Jersey, Essex County College, and Ramapo College of New Jersey for fiscal 2008, and the plan to increase the set aside for statewide conference activities and to offer a targeted Request for Proposal for innovative initiatives.

  • Annual Report on Licensure Activities: Ms. Marguerite Beardsley, director of academic affairs, discussed the activities of the academic affairs office of the Commission in fiscal 2007 and 2008, the program approval process, and new degree programs initiated since 2005.

  • New Business: The Commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution of thanks to Warren E. Smith, Esq., who served on the Commission as the Chair of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority.
