Program Description:

Project Summer Link is a collaborative educational summer program designed to provide tutorial and enrichment

activities for specially selected middle school youth. This project "links" college students from Burlington County

College as tutors and mentors with junior high school students from nine school districts.

The goals of the program are to help middle school students increase school attendance, improve academic skills,

and develop enhanced self-esteem. The program runs on the Mt. Laurel and Pemberton campuses for the month of

July and engages the students in tutorial and enrichment activities. The program includes small group seminars

throughout each day to provide an opportunity for discussion and academic and social guidance. Field trips vary but

have included the U.S.S. New Jersey, The Franklin Institute, The Constitution Center, and a working dairy farm.

Students serving as mentors must have a strong interest in teaching and demonstrate an enthusiasm for working

with youth who may have a record of poor attendance, low academic performance, or possibly a difficult home

situation.
