| Program Description: |
| | Project Summer Link is a collaborative educational summer program designed to provide tutorial and enrichment |
| | activities for specially selected middle school youth. This project "links" college students from Burlington County |
| | College as tutors and mentors with junior high school students from nine school districts. |
| | |
| | The goals of the program are to help middle school students increase school attendance, improve academic skills, |
| | and develop enhanced self-esteem. The program runs on the Mt. Laurel and Pemberton campuses for the month of |
| | July and engages the students in tutorial and enrichment activities. The program includes small group seminars |
| | throughout each day to provide an opportunity for discussion and academic and social guidance. Field trips vary but |
| | have included the U.S.S. New Jersey, The Franklin Institute, The Constitution Center, and a working dairy farm. |
| | |
| | Students serving as mentors must have a strong interest in teaching and demonstrate an enthusiasm for working |
| | with youth who may have a record of poor attendance, low academic performance, or possibly a difficult home |
| | situation. |
