| Program Description: |
| | The STARS (Students and Teachers are Reading Sports) Program provides elementary students from the Paterson |
| | Public School District with free literacy instruction and reading enrichment based on sports-related children's |
| | literature. Funded by Fleet Bank, this program reprsents a collaboration among a variety of organizations including |
| | the Yogi berra Museum and Learning center, the Literacy Enrichment center at Montclair State University, and the |
| | Paterson Public Schools. Every week, graduate students from Montclair State University and high school students |
| | from Paterson join together with small groups of elementary students to enjoy books about sports and take part in |
| | literacy-related activities. In addition, all participants attend related events that include author talks, guest lectures by |
| | athletes, and field trips to sports games and the Yoggi Berra museum. |
