| Program Description: |
| | The Upward Bound Program at Montclair State University assists low-income and first generation students with |
| | academic support services to increase their opportunity to graduate from high school. The main thrust of the project |
| | is to increase the skills and motivation needed to successfully complete an undergraduate course of study. |
| | Participants are recruited from the federally approved target areas of Newark, Passaic, and Paterson. |
| | |
| | The support services offered are a five week residential program on the Montclair State University campus and an |
| | academic component that consists of eight Saturday sessions in both the fall and spring. Students receive |
| | academic enrichment and instruction in mathematics and science, tutoring, SAT review, college placement |
| | assistance and advising. The Upward Bound Program exposes students to various careers to broaden a student's |
| | perception of opportunities available and enhance their self-esteem and self concept. Securing postsecondary |
| | placement and graduation for the participants is a prime objective of the program. |
