| Program Description: |
| | The goal of the Bloomfield College Upward Bound Program is to prepare its participants to complete their education |
| | beyond high school and to develop, progress, and change into productive, well-rounded individuals. Participants of |
| | the program will be more effective communicators upon completion. The program employs a holistic approach |
| | toward the accomplishment of its intended objective. Students are offered academic, cultural, social, creative, |
| | artistic, and professional enrichment. |
| | |
| | Hosted by Bloomfield College since 1966, the Upward Bound Program is a precollege program, serving teenagers (13 |
| | - 18 years of age) from selected high schools in the Newark and East Orange areas. The program offers a follow- |
| | up component from September - April and a six-week summer residential component form June - August. The |
| | eligibility criteria includes completion of the 8th grade, poverty level, household income, and/or first generation status. |
| | The program services offered include the following: academic courses; counseling; mentoring; college tours; tutoring; |
| | parent/student workshops; postsecondary information; and financial aid assistance. |
| | |
| | The student, through his/her efforts, along with a supportive staff, and cooperative family members, will develop into |
| | a more productive, well rounded adult, capable of rational, responsible decisions. |
