Division of Deaf and Hard of Hearing schedules demo days for assistive devices

TRENTON, NEW JERSEY – Deaf and hard of hearing consumers will be able to try-out different assistive equipment on display at the Joseph Kohn Rehabilitation Center (JKRC) in New Brunswick during quarterly "Demonstration Days" sponsored by the Department of Human Services’ Division of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DDHH).

Due to the positive response and support from its first Demo Day in mid-December, DDHH has planned March 18, June 17, September 9 and December 16 for anyone who wishes to receive a demonstration on assistive technology for people with hearing loss. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. consumers and family members can view 37 different devices in eight equipment categories: Smoke Alarms, Doorknockers/Doorbells, Notification Products, Wake Up, Assistive Listening Equipment in FM, Infrared, and Personal Communicator versions, plus Telephone Products. From smoke detectors in visual or vibrating models, doorbells using light beacons or strobe chimes, and baby cry signalers to sonic boom alarm clocks, infrared TV systems, pocket sized personal communicators and all varieties of telephone amplifiers and text equipment, DDHH field representatives will show how all of this equipment can enhance the quality of life for people with hearing loss.

The Kohn Center is located at 130 Livingston Avenue in New Brunswick. If the quarterly demonstration dates are not convenient, consumers can schedule a private appointment with DDHH Field Representatives Traci Burton or Jason Weiland by calling 609-984-7281.

The JKRC also houses assistive and adaptive equipment that serves the blind and visually impaired community.
