TRENTON -- As a result of the ongoing investigation
of the Division of Youth and Family Services’ handling of the
Melinda Williams case in Newark, Department of Human Services
Commissioner Gwendolyn L. Harris took action today to suspend
the case worker who mishandled this case, which included not
reporting allegations of abuse.
Yesterday the Commissioner moved to suspend the DYFS supervisor
who ultimately approved the closing of the case, despite a notation
in the case closing summary which indicated that the children
had not been seen by DYFS in about a year.
