DHS launches campaign to increase NJ FamilyCare enrollment

TRENTON – Commissioner James M. Davy today announced a new online application and advertising campaign to further his commitment to insuring children, and their parents, who are eligible for the state's NJ FamilyCare health insurance program.

Commissioner Davy unveiled these new components at the Bright Lights & Stars Academy day care center in New Brunswick . The new application and ads mark another step forward for the Department of Human Services' NJ FamilyCare goal of making sure all children have health care coverage.

“We know we must do creative things in order to spread the message that NJ FamilyCare exists and to make sure that it is as easy as possible to apply and enroll in this important program,” said Commissioner Davy.

Human Services switched to a one-page application in 2004 and the online application makes the process of enrolling even simpler.

“While the advertising will help us get the word out about how affordable and comprehensive this program is, the online application provides a faster, readily available avenue for families to enroll than even our one-page application,” Commissioner Davy said.

For the first time in about five years, the Department will be advertising this program on buses, cable television, radio and multi-cultural print outlets. Using a back-to-school theme, the ads use an emotional tug to ask parents if their children are insured.

“Commissioner Davy is taking innovative steps to bring more children into the NJ FamilyCare program,” said Acting Governor Richard J. Codey.

To further spread awareness, DHS is taking the NJ FamilyCare message on the road using a van adorned with NJ FamilyCare to various community fairs and cultural events. As of now, more than 125,000 people have seen the van.

Presently, NJ FamilyCare covers 109,827 children and 48,621 adults. Including those enrolled in traditional Medicaid as well, there are more than 500,000 children in the program.
