New Jersey Child Care Advisory Council (CCAC) members have generously contributed books again this year for the 2007 Week of the Young Child, which will run April 22- 28, reports Terri Buccarelli.  Terri is DHS Executive Director of the Office of Early Care and Education and also serves as Coordinator of the CCAC.

The NJ Association for the Education of Young Children (NJAEYC) sponsors the annual Week of the Young Child, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  CCAC members brought their book donations to the Council’s March 21, 2007 meeting, coordinating with this year’s theme: “Building Better Futures for ALL Children.”

Council member and Program Chair, Theresa Caputo, involves the CCAC members each year in donating books for the NJAEYC literacy campaign.

Now in its second year, the campaign identifies locations such as shelters, health clinics, hospitals and disaster relief locations, where kids gather who do not have access to children’s books.  CCAC then delivers books, for infants to children up to 8 years old, to these locations so that children and their parents can enjoy them together.

“Books tend to be more durable than many types of toys, so they can benefit the children all year long,” said Buccarelli.
