Division of Addiction Services
With a budget of over $160 million for SFY 2007 and 136 allocated staff positions, the Division of Addiction Services (DAS) is the Single State Agency for substance abuse in New Jersey . DAS has the authority to plan, implement, evaluate and regulate New Jersey treatment and prevention substance abuse efforts. The Division is responsible for providing effective treatment and prevention for alcoholism and drug abuse and for enhancing public awareness of the dangers of such substances. DAS is responsible for budgeting State, Federal and other funds, reviews applications, prepares grant documents, and monitors expenditures.
The mission of DAS is to provide Statewide leadership for alcohol and other drug prevention and treatment services for New Jersey residents; to decrease misuse or abuse of alcohol and other drugs by supporting the development of a comprehensive, high quality network of prevention and treatment; and to recognize addiction as a treatable illness where people at risk for/or with addiction problems are managed with dignity and respect, in a safe environment that is recovery oriented and accountable to the public.
The Division is committed to Accountability, Transparency, and Quality. These three tenets focus on: accountability to the needs of substance abuse clients and constituents, transparent data-driven decision-making for the distribution of public resources and quality treatment that is client centered, recovery oriented and outcome driven. DAS strives to follow these tenets in all of its actions.
DAS, located at 120 South Stockton Street in Trenton, consists of the following offices: 1) Office of the Director , 2) Quality Treatment , 3) Prevention and Training Services , 4) Planning, Research and Information Services , 5) Intradepartmental Relations , 6) Licensure and Construction, and 7) Administrative Services . The Division is also responsible for the Statewide Intoxicated Driving Program , which is located in Hamilton .
