New Jersey Epidemiological Profile for Substance Abuse
The purpose of the NJ Epidemiological Profile for Substance Abuse is to promote effective substance abuse prevention in the state through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF SIG). Ultimately, the SPF SIG will ensure a solid foundation exists for delivering effective, data driven, culturally competent, evidence-based substance abuse prevention services in New Jersey communities.
The New Jersey Epidemiological Profile for Substance Abuse is a valuable resource document that will be used by substance abuse prevention coalitions and organizations at the county and community levels in New Jersey . It identifies population needs, problems, resources and readiness at the state level. It also provides baseline data to address gaps and barriers at the state and county levels. This document summarizes the most up-to-date statistics available on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and consequences in New Jersey .
This Epidemiological Profile was developed by the State Epidemiological Outcomes Workgroup (SEOW) over the course of several months, as part of the SPF SIG plan for the State of New Jersey . The mission of the New Jersey SEOW is to collect and organize multiple sources of data. By first understanding the prevalence and patterns of problems identified in the data, then understanding the factors that contribute to these problems, decision makers can use the data to help guide relevant and effective prevention strategies and to make sound policies. Both governmental and community agencies are represented on the New Jersey SEOW and are listed below.
