New
Jersey Division of Family Development
La
División de Desarrollo Familiar (DFD, siglas en inglés)
The Division of Family Development (DFD) provides
leadership and supervision to the public and private agencies that
deliver financial aid and support services to individuals and families.
DFD has an operating budget of nearly $1.5 billion for FY 2007,
with the capacity for 478 employees.
The DFD's primary task is to direct the state's
welfare program, Work First New Jersey
(WFNJ). WFNJ and Food Stamps, a
federally funded food assistance program for low-income families,
are administered by the county welfare agencies
in each of the 21 counties, and by certain municipal welfare departments.
DFD provides funding, information management services and administrative
support..
The division also oversees Child
Care, Universal Service Fund (USF)
and Child Support. The
Federal benefit program, the Supplemental
Security Income (SSI) program for aged, blind or disabled
individuals, is supplemented by DFD.
Information on the DFD-supervised programs is available
through various toll-free hotlines.
