Choosing Quality Child Care

  • Do you want a child care center - or family child care in a person's home?

  • Do you want your child near your home - or where you work?

  • Do you want your child cared for in a small or large group?

Most of all, whichever setting you choose, you'll need to decide whether or not the provider has the quality environment you are looking for. Caring, nurturing and educational are some ways you may describe your ideal child care setting. Keep these words in mind when you talk to providers.

Figuring out what makes your child most comfortable will make your choice easier. You may have additional questions when you speak to prospective providers.

TYPES OF CHILD CARE:

  • New Jersey-licensed child care centers;

  • New Jersey-registered family child care homes;

  • Care without state oversight, that is provided either in someone else's home, or by a provider coming to your home.
