Regional Staff Nurses (RSN) are
registered nurses who staff the ten regional Medicaid offices
called Medical Assistance Customer Centers, or MACC’s.
The work performed by the RSN is challenging in both breadth
and volume and requires a multifaceted approach.
The MACC RSN ensures quality treatment for the Medicaid
consumer by continually evaluating the services and care provided
by a variety of vendors. The RSN visits facilities and programs,
as well as Medicaid customers in their homes, to ensure both
the quality of care and the integrity of the programs. Enforcing
regulatory standards of care is a part of the evaluation process.
In addition, as a representative of the State of New Jersey,
the RSNs determine the medical necessity of services, procedures,
and equipment. They make certain that services and care are
provided at an appropriate level and that only those Medicaid
customers whose conditions warrant it receive a given service.
The MACC RSN evaluates community-based service providers
and conducts post payment quality assurance reviews. Comprehensive
reports and documentation provide the basis for communication
between the entities.
