Welcome to the Division of Consumer Affairs. The work of this Division touches the lives of New Jersey’s citizens nearly every day. Our mission is simple: protect citizens from consumer fraud, blanket the state with consumer education, and make our operations consumer-friendly to the public when they contact us.
Make this Division your personal resource for consumer information on a host of subjects. Few transactions that take place in today’s marketplace go unregulated by Consumer Affairs. Many of the complaints we receive concern the purchase, lease and repair of autos; home repair and improvement problems; the purchase of home furnishings and appliances; securities, investment and financial frauds (including the fast-growing problem of identity theft); and telemarketing and Internet frauds.
If you believe you have been the victim of a fraud, we want to hear from you. You may reach us by using the e-mail address and phone numbers located on our Contact Information page, and you may file a complaint by clicking on the Complaint Forms link on this page.
Be sure to check with us if you have concerns about the qualifications or performance of any of the more than half-million people licensed in nearly 80 professions and occupations regulated by our Professional and Occupational Boards. We can tell you whether the license is current and whether any complaints have been filed against the individual.
In addition to filing a complaint on our Web site, you may add your name to our E-mailing list, review the State’s Consumer Fraud Act and other consumer protection laws, download consumer education materials, link to other consumer sites, review statutes and regulations, and more.
We are dedicated to being a consumer-friendly agency, and we encourage you to take advantage of our many services.
