The Public Utilities Section provide legal representation and counsel to the Board of Public Utilities in matters involving the regulation of the provision of electricity, gas, telecommunications services, water, waste water treatment and cable television, as well as enforcement of the Underground Facility Protection Act. Deputies handle administrative litigation before the Office of Administrative Law, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the United States Department of Energy, and the Federal Communications Commission as well as represent the BPU in litigation and appeals before State and federal courts. Counsel is also provided to the BPU with respect to administrative decision making, rulemakings, Open Public Records Act requests; and Open Public Meetings Act issues.
