TRENTON
Acting Attorney General Peter C.
Harvey today announced that advertising
promoting New Jersey's Homeland Security
Web site is debuting this week on more
than 300 New Jersey Transit Buses, as
well as on posters at New Jersey Transit
stations.
The ads, with the message "Be Prepared,
Stay Informed" and the Web site address,
www.NJHomelandSecurity.com,
are designed to lead New Jersey citizens
to homeland security information that
can help them prepare themselves and their
families for potential terrorist attacks
and other disasters, Harvey said. The
ads are sponsored by the New
Jersey Domestic Security Preparedness
Task Force, the State's cabinet-level
homeland security coordinating body, and
by the New Jersey Business Force/Business
Executives for National Security (BENS).
"This
week's terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia
remind us that we cannot allow ourselves
to become complacent," said Governor
James E. McGreevey. "We must acknowledge
that the world we live in has permanently
changed, and prepare ourselves accordingly.
The State's Homeland Security Web site
offers a wealth of information to help
New Jerseyans protect themselves from
potential terrorist attacks, which we
are all working to prevent from happening
on our shores."
"Whether
it's protecting ourselves online by changing
computer passwords frequently, or protecting
our families by developing an emergency
communications plan and laying in emergency
supplies, many of us know the right things
to do but just don't get around
to doing them," said Acting Attorney
General Harvey.
"The
information available at NJHomelandSecurity.com
can provide valuable tools for citizens
to protect themselves and their loved
ones. We hope that through the impetus
of this ad campaign, New Jerseyans will
become motivated to use these important
tools," he said.
According to Harvey, who also chairs the
State's Domestic Security Preparedness
Task Force, the Web site offers practical
suggestions to increase preparedness,
including learning about the Homeland
Security Advisory System, about biological,
chemical and radioactive agents and about
how to prepare your family practically
and psychologically for a terrorist incident
or other disaster.
The transit advertising campaign beginning
this week builds on radio and television
public service advertising for the State's
Homeland Security Web site that was launched
in March.
The transit advertising campaign is being
coordinated with the New
Jersey Business Force, a first-of-its-kind
homeland security partnership designed
to marshal private sector resources to
help government minimize the potential
consequences of a terrorist attack in
New Jersey. Sponsored by Business Executives
for National Security (BENS), the New
Jersey Business Force mobilizes the private
sector's resources to complement government's
efforts to prepare for and respond to
homeland security threats.
"This
campaign is just one of the many areas
in which BENS/New Jersey Business Force
is partnering with the State on homeland
security preparedness response and awareness,"
said Brian J. Dunlap, New Jersey Business
Force's Executive Director.
The more than 300 advertisements on New
Jersey Transit buses, complemented by
20 poster-sized advertisements at New
Jersey Transit rail stations, were offered
at reduced rate by Viacom Outdoor, a corporate
member of the New Jersey Business Force
that handles all advertising for New Jersey
Transit. The cost of four weeks of advertising
is being funded by a federal grant from
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's
Office of Domestic Preparedness.
"This
is a serious issue and very relevant to
the people of New Jersey," said Jodi
Senese, Executive Vice President of Marketing
for Viacom Outdoor. "Bus and rail
posters are uniquely suited to deliver
the Web address and Stay Informed'
message. Hopefully, these constant reminders
will convince residents of the importance
of preparedness."
The New Jersey Domestic Security Preparedness
Task Force, which consists of State Cabinet
officials and representatives from New
Jersey's private sector, works to develop
coordinated plans to combat terrorism
and increase citizen preparedness throughout
New Jersey.
