Harvey to Announce Results of Comprehensive
Survey on Street Gangs

WHAT:
Attorney General Peter C. Harvey will
announce and discuss the results of a
2004 State Police survey on street gang
activity that indicates, through statistical
and anecdotal evidence, that gang activity
in New Jersey is on the rise, including
in suburban municipalities often perceived
to be untouched by gang presence. Conducted
by the State Police Gang Bureau and Analytical
Support Unit, the survey is based on responses
by 91 percent of the state’s 479
full-time municipal police departments,
and is the most comprehensive law enforcement
study of the street gang problem in New
Jersey to date.
