WHAT:
Eighteen residents from the Juvenile Justice
Commission’s Green Residential Community
Home will conclude their participation
in the Young Eagles program with a ride
in a small plane. Chapter 501 of the Experienced
Aircraft Association (EAA) spearheads
the program which introduces young people
to the wonders of flight and the various
related career options. Licensed pilots,
who volunteer their time, their planes
and operating expenses, conduct the flights
in FAA registered aircrafts. Students
receive instruction in aviation and safety
as part of the project.
The
JJC operates 16 residential community
centers throughout the state which typically
deal with lower level offenders or those
juveniles preparing to return to their
communities at the completion of their
sentences. Juveniles are supervised by
trained staff at all times. Juveniles
who commit more violent crimes are sentenced
to JJC secure institutions and are not
eligible to participate in this program.
