Philly LCN Soldier Arrested, Cherry Hill Home Searched

The New Jersey State Police Organized Crime Bureau, working with the FBI Philadelphia office, arrested a well-established organized crime figure at his Cherry Hill home yesterday afternoon. Vincent Filipelli, 53, of West New York Avenue in Cherry Hill, was charged with numerous state and federal crimes and has been lodged in Camden County Correctional Facility without bail, pending a federal detention hearing.

Filipelli was the focus of the illegal sports gambling investigation that utilized two undercover State Police detectives. Believing that one of the detectives owed him a betting debt, Filipelli threatened to put the trooper in the hospital for a year if the debt was not paid. Filipelli also stated that he was a "made" guy in conversations with one of the undercover troopers. "Made" is a term associated with being an accepted member of the La Cosa Nostra (LCN) organized criminal enterprise.

Working with FBI agents and the New Jersey State Police T.E.A.M.S. (tactical unit), a search warrant was executed on Filipelli's home yesterday afternoon. According to the lead investigator, Detective Sal DeGirolamo, the evidence seized included anabolic steroids and drug paraphernalia valued at $10,000, two stun guns, gambling records and cash.

Filipelli was charged with interstate trafficking in aid of racketeering, extortion for credit purposes, money laundering, promoting gambling, usury, possession of a weapon while conspiring to distribute CDS, possession of a prohibited weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and within 1,000 feet of a school zone. The U.S. Attorney's Office will be prosecuting this case.

Filipelli was a former bodyguard for John Stanfa, boss of the Philadelphia LCN crime family.
