Social Media Tips Lead to 3 Arrests for Home Burglary

Still Seeking 4th Suspect

Millstone Township, N.J. - On October 30 the New Jersey State Police requested the public's assistance with identifying a suspect wanted for a home burglary. As a result of postings on Facebook and Twitter, detectives were flooded with dozens of tips that enabled them to identify the suspect in less than 30 minutes.

On September 9, at approximately 1:49 p.m., a male suspect climbed through the kitchen window of a home on Nurko Road in Millstone Township. Once inside, the suspect unlocked a door allowing three other male accomplices inside. The four suspects worked together stealing a safe and various electronics. Their images were captured on the homeowner's private surveillance cameras.

Between November 8 and December 3 troopers from Hamilton Station arrested Jesse James Shawger, 21, Thomas LaSala, 24, and John Anderson, 27, all of Howell, N.J., and charged them each with burglary and theft.

"We are excited to see how our social media outreach has morphed into an effective crime fighting tool," said Capt. Stephen Jones, Director of Communications for the State Police. "We're not yet tapping its full potential, and I believe the power of this medium is still undiscovered by many law enforcement agencies."

Troopers are still seeking an additional suspect. A previously unreleased still photograph of surveillance footage shows a fourth man wearing a grey, hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and dark shoes. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hamilton Station Troopers Mimikos or Boyd at (609) 584-5000 ext. 5297.
