Colonel Glenn Rieth Confirmed As The Adjutant General

The Senate confirmed Colonel Glenn K. Rieth March 4 as The Adjutant General of New Jersey.

Col. Rieth commands more than 9,000 soldiers and airmen of the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard with responsibility to direct, control, and manage the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in the execution of federal and state missions. In addition, he manages and serves all veterans' programs, commissions, and facilities in New Jersey at the state level.

Col. Rieth was born on Nov. 27, 1957, in Livingston, N.J. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from The Citadel-Military College of South Carolina in 1980. He was also a Distinguished Military Graduate. His military education includes Armor Officer Basic Course, United States Army Rotary Wing and Fixed Wing Flight Schools, Aviation Officer Advanced Course, United States Army Safety Officer Course, United States Air Force Joint Air/Ground Operations School, United States Army Command and General Staff College, and the United States Army War College.

Col. Rieth received his commission as a second lieutenant from The Citadel-Military College of South Carolina in June 1980. After receiving his pilot's wings from Fort Rucker, Ala., on July 1981, he was assigned to the Aero Recon, Air Cavalry Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas, as a Platoon Leader and Assistant Operation and Training Officer. After being promoted to Captain, he was assigned as Commander of the Aero Recon, Air Cavalry Troop, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Bliss, Texas, from 1984 to 1985. In 1986, Colonel Rieth left active-duty and joined the New Jersey Army National Guard as an Aviation Brigade Safety Officer and Flight Instructor for the 50th Armored Division. In Nov. 1987, he became the Operations Officer for the 1st Battalion, 150th Aviation, Army Aviation Support Facility No. 1 at Trenton-Mercer Airport. In Sept. 1988, he was promoted to Major. From Mar. 1990 to Oct. 1992, Col. Rieth was the Air Operations Officer, Headquarters, 50th Armored Division, in Somerset. In Nov. 1992, he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and became the Commander of the 1st Battalion, 150th Aviation; and the Army Aviation Support Facility No. 1 at Trenton-Mercer Airport. In Oct. 1995, Colonel Rieth was assigned as the Recruiting and Retention Commander, New Jersey Army National Guard, Fort Dix. On Feb. 17, 1999, he was promoted to full Colonel and Director, State Army Aviation Office.

His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Aviation Order of Saint Michael, the Master Army Aviator Badge, the Parachutist Badge (Airborne), the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, the New Jersey Medal of Honor, the New Jersey Merit Award, and the New Jersey Desert Storm Ribbon.
