Flag Retirement Service to be Held November 11The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will hold a Flag Retirement Service for American Flags that are no longer serviceable to be displayed on November 11 at 10:30 a.m. at the Outdoor Committal Plaza adjacent to the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Wrightstown, N.J. More than 2579 flags have been collected at the cemetery since the program was announced in March 2003. The flags will be burned in private and the ashes will be buried in public ceremony. Any resident who wishes to have a flag retired, can drop off the flag at the chapel/administration building at the cemetery or can mail their flag to the cemetery. Business hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. A repository is in place at the maintenance building for evening and weekend drop off. The cemetery is located at 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, N.J. 08562. The Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery is the state's only state-operated veterans' cemetery; dedicated in 1986, it is funded jointly by state and federal governments and managed by the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
