Ocean County Mall Hosts Ceremony To Award State's Top Military Award On May 6
WHO/WHAT: Retired Army Col. Stephen G. Abel, Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs, will present the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal, the state's top military award, to 102 veterans, from Ocean County, at the mall's center court. Nine Ocean County veterans will receive the New Jersey Meritorious Service Medal for their service in the military. Another 42 veterans will be honored with the Vietnam Service Medal. These combat veterans served in Korea, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm/Desert Shield and Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom

WHERE: Ocean County Mall, Hooper Ave., Toms River
Details: This ceremony marks the start of a three-day visit of the veterans outreach kiosk where veterans and their family members can learn more about benefits or entitlements that they could be eligible to receive. The New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs will be bringing benefit information to ‘those who served' as part of the Veterans Outreach Program to the Ocean County Mall center court from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day through May 8. Veterans who miss the opportunity to visit the mall kiosk can call the department's toll free benefits information line any time at 1-888-8NJ VETS. |
