Guard Soldiers Receive Purple Heart

Bill Addison, 444th MPAD. Four members of the New Jersey Army National Guard were awarded the Purple Heart in a ceremony at Fort Dix Sunday, Dec. 5.
The Soldiers, all members of B Battery, 3rd Battalion, 112th Field Artillery, received the medal for wounds received in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Sergeants Joseph E. Nyzio of Ewing and Carl Oliver of Trenton, along with Cpl. Timothy John Brosnan Jr., of East Brunswick, and Spc. Gregory M. Brown of Newark received the award from Maj. Gen. Glenn K. Rieth, the Adjutant General of the New Jersey National Guard.
The Purple Heart is awarded for wounds or death as a result of an act of any opposing armed force, as a result of an international terrorist attack or as a result of military operations while serving as part of a peacekeeping force. |
