First Female Commander To Lead Training Center
WHO/WHAT: Col. Loretta S. Thomas, an Iraq war veteran, assumes command of the National Guard Joint Training and Training Development Center at Fort Dix. She will replace Col. Anthony J. Formica, who played a lead role in the military response in Lower Manhattan following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Formica, a resident of Tewksbury Township, is retiring after a 35-year military career. Thomas, of Coopersburg, Pa., commanded the New Jersey Army National Guard's 250th Signal Battalion during its 2005 tour in Iraq.
The Joint Training and Training Development Center uses some of the military's most sophisticated computer simulators to prepare members of the armed forces for combat. Col. Thomas will command a staff of nearly 100.
