State To Memorialize Fallen Service Members At Annual Memorial Day Ceremony

 

 


WHO/WHAT: Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff, the Adjutant General; Raymond Zawacki, New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Deputy Commissioner for Veterans Affairs, senior military and veteran leaders will join dozens of veterans' organizations to honor our nations fallen service members at the State Memorial Day Ceremony.

WHEN: Saturday, May 26, 10:30 a.m.

 

THE STORY: The annual Memorial Day commemoration ceremonies will begin with a parade of color guards from various veterans organizations led by the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery Joint Honor Guard. Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff will be the key speaker. Other highlights will include the 63rd Army Band, a 21-gun salute and a flyover by F-16 jets. Culminating the ceremony will be the presentation of memorial wreaths by representatives of more than a dozen veteran and service organizations who will parade to the public assembly area.

 

      The Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery is New Jersey's sole state-operated veterans' cemetery. Dedicated in 1986, it is managed by the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The Cemetery is the busiest state veteran cemetery in the nation, averaging nearly 3,000 interments each year. It is the final resting place for more than 43,000 veterans and family members.
