Hammonton Army Guard Departs

For Afghanistan

WHO/WHAT: Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno with Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cunniff, The Adjutant General, will join families and friends for a departure ceremony for the 150th Engineer Company. The more than 100 Citizen-Soldiers from the Hammonton armory will start an Operation Enduring Freedom deployment on Monday as they head to their mobilization station at Camp Shelby, Miss.

The 150th Engineer Company includes Citizen-Soldiers from 19 of the state’s 21 counties: Atlantic-25, Burlington-9, Camden-13, Gloucester-7, Monmouth-9 and Ocean-12 are the five counties with the most deploying Guard members. Led by Capt. Jeffrey Hager and First Sgt. Paulo Amado, the Engineers will deploy to Afghanistan to support CENTCOM’s recovery element. For this unique endeavor, they will construct necessary infrastructure and deconstruct U.S. military bases to return areas to their original state or reconfigure areas to handoff to Afghan forces.

Today’s event is monumental – it is the opening chapter of this unit’s combat history. In 2005, the unit was established as the 110th Engineer Detachment and then re-designated as the 150th Engineer Company in 2007.

After the departure ceremony families will be making signs for the Hammonton community farewell ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. Hammonton City Mayor will present the Hammonton City Flag/State Flag to the unit. Then the Hammonton Police Department will escort Riders all the way to the Route 68 Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst main gate. Area motorcycle groups will participate in the escort with Hammonton Ladder Fire Department will providing a ladder truck with flags at Intersection Rt. 206 and Rt. 54. State Troopers will block traffic for us at Rt. 206/ Rt. 70 Red Lion circle and at the Intersection at Rt. 68 and Rt. 206.
