Dear Governor Whitman: On behalf of the more than 9,000 patriotic and dedicated members of the New Jersey Army and Air National Guard and all the dedicated and professional employees of the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, I am pleased to present to you the Department’s Annual Report for 1997. We all are very proud of our tradition of service to the people of the great state of New Jersey and, indeed, to all the citizens of the United States of America. Our resources and unique talents were called upon numerous times in the past year to respond to threats from nature’s fury and to participate fully in the national defense mission as a key component of the United States Armed Forces. Our veterans’ services and programs have continued to break new ground
in our ongoing effort to provide the best possible care and service to
our state’s more than 735,000 veterans. In the category of “Operations
Other Than War,” our citizen-soldiers continue their enthusiastic participation
in educational, environmental, and drug interdiction activities in addition
to our traditional support of local community programs and events.
Sincerely,
Paul J. Glazar
