Sgt. Randall Mahalik (second from right) and Staff Sgt. Luis Figueroa
(right), along with 50th Main Support Battalion E Company medics deployed
to the Chontales Province of Nicaragua from April 12 through 27 in support
of Operation New Horizons.
The Jersey medics were there to provide American forces health care while engineer units from across the United States constructed clinics, flush latrines, schools, and wells in Nicaragua. The medics also visited the village of El Coral where they provided medical treatment to the local population. “Our people were an invaluable part of bringing medicine to the local population,” stated Col. John Dwyer, Commander, Division Support Command.
