If the individual selected is currently on a title 10 tour no action can be taken until he/she is released from tour.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP STATUS:  Employment in this position requires concurrent military assignment to a compatible military position in the New Jersey National Guard in one of the following military specialty codes:

AFSC: 2A7XX

 

LEVEL OF CLEARANCE/INVESTIGATION:  Critical/sensitive

 

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS: Acceptance of this position requires a minimum ASVAB Score of 47 in the Mechanical area. ASVAB scores will not be required to apply for the position, however applicants must obtain required ASVAB scores prior to acceptance of the position.  The applicant must verify their scores with their Military Personnel Flight/Military Personnel Office.

 

PRE-PLACEMENT PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Requires a physical profile of: 3 3 3 1 3 2

 

METHOD OF SELECTION:   NJDMAVA TPR 335.A Merit Placement Plan, and the negotiated agreement.

MAJOR JOB DUTIES (a copy of the complete position description is available in the Human Resource Office):

Independently inspects aircraft and determines the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines.  Repairs cracks in aircraft skin.  Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers.  Aligns balances component structures and airframe using precision measuring instruments and levels.  Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair or replacement of plastic, fiberglass, composites, bonded structures, and bonded honeycomb assemblies using powered and nonpowered tools and equipment.  Manufactures and ensures that metal tubing, conduits and cables are fabricated and tested in accordance with drawings and specifications.  Performs fabrication of local manufactured items requited for aircraft and equipment.  Sets up and operates power shears, brakes, rolls, dimpling machines, drill presses, saws, portable powered tools, equipment, including use of other tools of the trade.  Prepares and designs layout, dies, jigs, and templates necessary to carry out fabrication repair or modification of aircraft, engine, AGE, and other equipment.  Identifies metal corrosion.  Removes corrosion by mechanical and chemical procedures to include use of portable powered (electric and pneumatic) sanders, buffers, brushes, bead blasters, vacuum cleaners, scrapers, grinders, acids, caustics, solvents, alcohols and other agents used in corrosion control processes.  Applies protective coatings, markings, and decals after proper removal of corrosion and treatment of metals.  Identifies, blends, stores, controls, and disposes of hazardous materials such as acids, caustics, alcohols, solvents, cleaners, primers and surface coatings used for corrosion removal, treatment and protection in accordance with applicable directives.  May operate the wash rack.  May assist in training of drill status guard members and in maintenance of publication files of applicable technical orders, regulations, manuals and local directives.  Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as MEI, ORI, IG, and UE inspections mobility ad command support exercises.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  Candidates must have a valid state driver’s license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams.

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:.  Must have 18 months experience in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with dovetailed seams, set-in-seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired or lock seams.

ABILITY to plan, construct, assemble, disassemble, repair, fabricate, and install irregular items and systems having combined shapes to exacting tolerances using the least number of seams and amount of metal. 

ABILITY to work independently from written or oral instructions, blueprints, sketches, or personnel inspection of items or systems to be manufactured or repaired.

ABILITY to independently develop plans and make decisions. 

SKILL in making layouts, patterns and templates using recognized trade methods and practices. 

KNOWLEDGE of and SKILL in the selection and use of special sheet metal tools and equipment without instructions, and to develop modifications to prototype or test equipment.

 

SUBSTITUTION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Appropriate credit may be given to applicants who have successfully completed an approved  apprenticeship course(as evidence by appropriate certificate of completion/diploma), in the sheet metal mechanic occupation.  Care should be taken however, that credit is based on the quality of the course content, the formal classroom and actual shop work combination and length of course.
