NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP STATUS:  Employment in this position requires concurrent military assignment to a compatible military position in the New Jersey National Guard in one of the following military specialty codes:

AFSC:  2A6X1

LEVEL OF CLEARANCE/INVESTIGATION:  Non-sensitive (NACI)

 

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS: Acceptance of this position requires a minimum ASVAB Score of 56 in the Mechanical area.  ASVAB scores will not be required to apply for this position, however applicants must obtain required ASVAB scores prior to acceptance of the position.  The applicant must verify their scores with their Military Personnel Flight/Military Personnel Office.

 

PRE-PLACEMENT PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Requires a physical profile of: 3, 3, 3, 1, 3, 2

 

METHOD OF SELECTION:   NJDMAVA TPR 335.A Merit Placement Plan and the current negotiated union contract.

Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.

 

MAJOR JOB DUTIES (a copy of the complete position description is available in the Human Resource Office):   

Troubleshoots malfunctioning engines and interrelated propulsion system components, determines degree of disassembly or certification required, repairs or replaces defective components, diagnostic computers and associated hardware.  Troubleshoots, modifies, repairs, and performs sequential disassembly and assembly of gearboxes and auxiliary power units.  Performs scheduled and special evaluations on installed engines, auxiliary power units, and associated airframe-mounted systems.  Performs command directed and locally established in-progress inspections (IPI) (certifying acceptable performance of all conventional or modified  aircraft engines prior to their being installed in the aircraft or placed in inventory) of propulsion system components and associated equipment to determine adequacy of workmanship, materials and maintenance.  Requisitions, processes, and accounts for supply assets as required by the repairable processing system.  Provides technical advice and troubleshooting expertise to other work centers when propulsion systems affect or are affected by interrelated aircraft system, such as: electro-environmental, pneudraulic, fuel and avionics systems. 

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:   Experience, education, or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories in accordance with technical specifications, procedures and requirements.  Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade. 

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience performing standard, routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft engines, engine assemblies, and accessories.

KNOWLEDGE of aircraft engine parts and components and how they function. 

SKILL in the use and interpretation of schematic diagrams and other technical publications. 

ABILITY to determine if disassembled parts are reusable. 

ABILITY to disassemble, repair, rework and modify aircraft engines and components in accordance with prescribed procedures in TMS and other directives. 

ABILITY to assemble aircraft engines, adhering to prescribed procedures, torque valves, safety methods, and clearances. 

 

 

SUBSTITUTION FOR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Credit for successful completion of schools that are directly related to repair of aircraft engines will be credited on a day-for-day basis.
