DENTAL POLICY

 

POLICY STATEMENT:

The Division of Veterans Healthcare Services requires that each of the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes arrange for Dental Services to assist residents maintain good oral health and hygiene.

PURPOSE:

This policy and procedure shall serve to ensure veteran home residents are offered assistance in procuring routine and/or emergency dental care services to maintain good oral health and hygiene.

PROCEDURE:

A. New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes

  1. The New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes shall establish an oral health and hygiene program that serves to assist residents in maintaining good oral health and hygiene practices, and procures routine and/or emergency dental care services in accordance with Federal and State regulatory and licensing requirements.
 

a. The homes shall execute a Contract Agreement with a Dental Consultant who is credentialed, licensed, and privileged to practice in the State of New Jersey.

b. The Chief Executive Officer/Office of Administration shall maintain on file a copy of the consultant’s contract and the current clinician’s current license.

c. The Dental Consultant, in coordination with the Medical Director, shall have the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to implement established dental procedures.

Such delegation shall remain in effect until the Chief Executive Officer revokes it.

d. The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for the day-to-day oral hygiene practices of residents, and for assuring that such practices are followed.
