ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES POLICY STATEMENT

POLICY STATEMENT

The Division of Veterans Healthcare Services requires that each of the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes establish a protocol reviewed by the Infection Control Committee to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for veteran home residents, employees, visitors, volunteers and friends.

PURPOSE

This policy and procedure shall serve to ensure each of the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes develop and implement policies and procedures reviewed by Infection Control that guide the practices of Housekeeping, Laundry and Food services, to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for veterans home residents, employees, visitors, volunteers and friends.

PROCEDURE

  1. A.     New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes
    1. The New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes shall establish a protocol in accordance with Federal and State regulatory and licensing requirements that assures Housekeeping, Laundry, and Food Services operate in a safe and sanitary manner.
    2. Particular attention will be directed to the management of solid waste (medical and non-medical), protection of water supplies, and pest control.
    3. As part of the environmental services plan, the Veterans Memorial Homes will establish a written schedule that not only determines the frequency of cleaning and maintaining equipment, areas, and systems, but also establishes a schedule for regular inspections of those areas. Results of these inspections will be agenda items for the Veterans Memorial Homes’ Infection Control Committee meetings and Quality Assurance Committee meetings.

B.     Housekeeping/Laundry/Food Services

      1. Will establish policies and procedures, reviewed by the Infection Control Committee, that assures veterans home residents, employees, volunteers, visitors and friends live, work, and visit in a clean and safe environment.
