FINGERPRINT/IDENTIFICATION

PURPOSE:

To screen out illegal workers and those whose employment pose a potential detriment to the department and the veteran home residents.

DEFINITION:

The process by which the NJ Veterans Memorial Home Facilities ensure that prospective employees are legally qualified to work and whose employment is in the best interest of the department and the veteran home residents.

PROCEDURE:

A. References - written references, both employment and personal, are requested by mail on all applicants being seriously considered for employment. A release is obtained from the applicant upon completion of the application. Hiring decisions are generally delayed until receipt of satisfactory references.

B. Fingerprinting - fingerprints (2 sets - State Police and Federal) are obtained on all applicants seriously considered for employment. Hiring decisions are generally delayed pending receipt of results.

C. Form I-9 - this form, from the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services, is required on all employees. Specified forms of personal identification must be obtained to ensure applicant's legal right to work in the United States of America.

D. Licenses - applicant's for positions requiring state licensure or certification are required to submit copy of same with the application for employment. Copies are maintained in the personnel files.

E. Identification Badge - all employees are required to wear an identification badge visibly displayed on their person whenever they are on duty. Such badges contain a picture of the employee, their name and signature. Such badge must be returned to the Personnel Department upon termination of employment.
